Patricia McCaffrey

Mezzo-soprano Patricia McCaffrey is regarded as one of the world’s most sought-after vocal technicians. She has sung at the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Greater Miami Opera, Zürich Opera House, the Wexford Festival Opera, and other venues throughout the world. She is most noted for her portrayals of the title role in Carmen, Eboli (Don Carlo), Brangäne (Trisan und Isolde), Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana), Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos), Amneris (Aïda), Charlotte (Werther), and Herodias (Salome).

Ms. McCaffrey’s students have sung with the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Covent Garden, English National Opera, Vienna State Opera, Berlin State Opera, and Teatro alla Scala; and at such venues as the Salzburg Festival, the Bayreuth Festival, Carnegie Hall, and the BBC Proms. They are winners of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions; the Richard Tucker, George London, and Marian Anderson awards; the Operalia, Gerda Lissner Foundation, Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation, and Das Lied International Song competitions; and Grammy Awards. In additional to classical singers, Ms. McCaffrey teaches artists who perform on Broadway and in motion pictures, television, and commercials.

Ms. McCaffrey joined the adjunct faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 2001. She also teaches at the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College, the Lidal North International Opera Workshop in Norway, International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Berlin, the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute, and the Meitar Opera Studio of the Israeli Opera; and maintains a private voice studio in New York City.
