Staff Accountant

Reports to: Controller

Department: Business Office

Status: Exempt

This accounting professional is an integral part of the Business Office and will assist the Controller with the maintenance of financial records. This position also works very closely with the institution’s Accounts Payable and Student Billing Specialist.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Process bank deposits
  • Post deposits and payments
  • Post month-end bank entries for interest, dividends, and gift account receipts
  • Post month-end catering revenue
  • Post life account distributions and cashflows
  • Process employee expense reports, post expenses and reconcile account
  • General ledger reconciliations including student loan receivables, catering and ticket revenue, line of credit and interest
  • Backup/support during orientation and spring semester to process student payments
  • Audit support: gather materials, reconciliations, confirmations
  • provide support to the A/P Student Billing Specialist as needed
  • Assist with tax prep for forms 1098T and 1042S
  • Assist with data collection and reporting for institutional surveys and grant requests
  • Other duties as needed

 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate would possess:
  • 1-3 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in a nonprofit or school environment
  • Microsoft Excel
  • General Ledger experience – Financial Edge a plus
  • Familiarity with online banking systems
  • Experience identifying and implementing business office efficiencies
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Office programs, including Office 365, Outlook, SharePoint, and OneDrive
