Job Summary
Curtis Institute of Music has embarked on an ambitious plan to extend its reach worldwide, including multiple technological initiatives. As part of that effort, Curtis’s new IT department, founded in 2017, has significant responsibility around defining and implementing new strategies.
The Academic Technology Specialist will work directly with faculty and students to make academic goals inherent to Curtis’s evolving digital strategy; will bear direct responsibility for classroom and conference room technology. As a member of a small, agile department, successful candidates will also demonstrate an ability to contribute productively to our growth and adaptation, as Curtis exploits new digital opportunities. In turn, we expect to empower the candidate’s substantial creative freedom and continuing career growth.
Essential Functions
- Ensure reliability and performance of classroom and conference room technology for classes, presentations, and some musical and hybrid presentations.
- Provide first-level tech support to faculty and students.
- Escalate issues as necessary to other members of IT as necessary.
- Provide first-level tech support to resolve technical issues and close tickets.
- Serve as an empathetic liaison between the IT department and faculty and students.
- Understand classroom practices and recommend and implement new technologies that serve academic goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- One or more years of experience providing technology support
- Work experience in a higher education environment
- Experience with AV equipment such as Polycom, Crestron, tablets, AV panels, etc
- Windows and Apple OS administration
- Basic Networking experience such as: DHCP, DNS, VPN, VLANs, and port and patch cabling
- Wireless AP troubleshooting and support

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Routine for office environment.
- Some light physical labor involving equipment moves and room setup, with lifting unlikely to exceed 20-25lbs
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer at the time of hire.
- COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement for all positions at the Curtis Institute of Music and all new hires are expected to be fully vaccinated before beginning work.
Compensation and Benefits
- $58,000-$60,000 annually salary, commensurate with experience.
