Rainer Eudeikis ('14) Joins San Francisco Symphony as Principal Cellist

The Curtis alumnus is the first to fill the role in 45 years

Curtis alumnus Rainer Eudeikis (Cello ’14) has been appointed as the new principal cellist for the San Francisco Symphony under the baton of music director Esa-Pekka Salonen. Eudeikis succeeds the late Michael Grebanier (Cello ’58), who led the ensemble’s cello section from 1977 to 2019. He will join violists Katarzyna Bryla-Weiss and Leonid Plashinov-Johnson, and associate principal and E-flat clarinetist Matthew Griffith as they make their SFS debut in September 2022.
