Five Curtis Students Spotlighted in the New York Times

Delfin Demiray, Julin Cheung, Micah Gleason (Conducting ’24), Dillon Scott, and Juliette Tacchino are featured in an inspiring new photo essay

“Many of the musicians form friendships that lead to collaborations that endure throughout their careers. The list of alumni reads like a musical hall of fame, with titans like Leonard Bernstein and current stars like Lang Lang and Hilary Hahn.” —Joshua Barone, New York Times

Throughout the 2023–24 school year, five Curtis students—composer Delfin Demiray, flutist Julin Cheung, conductor Micah Gleason (’24), violist Dillon Scott, and soprano Juliette Tacchino—were followed by renowned New York Times senior staff photographer James Estrin and interviewed by Joshua Barone, assistant classical music and dance editor on the Culture Desk, documenting their lives on stage, in the classroom, and beyond. The resulting article, “At This School, the Students Live Entirely for Music,” is a compelling portrait of these remarkable young musicians, offering a unique, behind-the-scenes look at their creative endeavors and artistic development as they prepare for promising careers in the world of classical music. This digital photo essay is expected to appear in the Sunday edition of the New York Times on June 9, 2024.
