Robert Kahn (’22) Appointed Assistant Conductor of Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Congratulations to Robert Kahn (Conducting ’22), who has been named assistant conductor of Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) for the 2026–27 season. One of three candidates selected to audition, he was awarded the position by a majority decision from CSO musicians.
In his role, Kahn will:
- offer support as a cover conductor during select subscription weeks
- lead youth concerts in March 2027, and
- conduct the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and young musicians during the CSO Young Artists Competition
About Robert Kahn
Known for his clarity, versatility, and command of both operatic and symphonic repertoire, Dutch American conductor Robert Kahn completed his conducting fellowship at Curtis in 2022 under Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Since then, he has established strong relationships with major orchestras, serving as cover conductor for the Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. Highlights of the 2025-26 season include his European debut with the Olten Philharmonic in Izmir, Turkey, and leading Opera Philadelphia’s workshop of the newly commissioned opera Complications in Sue.
