Yu Xi Wang made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2002 as the winner of the Artist International Competition, and released her debut CD the following year in her native China. Her performances, many centered on her interest in unconventional venues, have taken her to numerous cities in the United States. Highlights include an all-Chopin recital, presented by Piano Culture for the composer’s bicentennial celebration, at the World Financial Center’s Winter Garden in 2010; and an appearance at Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts as part of the 2013 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA). Most recently, she appeared in two recitals at the Kislak Center, an intimate venue within the University of Pennsylvania’s Van Pelt Library.
Dr. Wang is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where she received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in piano performance under the tutelage of Herbert Stessin, Jerome Lowenthal, and Julian Martin. She has taught at Juilliard, Settlement Music School, Saint Joseph’s University, and the Philadelphia International Music Festival. She is currently a teaching affiliate at the University of Pennsylvania, serving as piano instructor and in-class performance coach. She joined the Curtis faculty in 2013.
