Samuel Barber (1910-1981) was an American composer of orchestral, opera, choral, and piano music.

He was born in Pennsylvania and attended the Curtis Institute of Music from 1924 to 1934, studying composition with Rosario Scalero, piano with Isabelle Vengerova (1924-1926), and voice with Emilio de Gogorza. He graduated in 1934 with both a diploma and bachelor degree in composition.
