Young Artist Summer Program 2018 begins!

Summerfest’s biggest and longest program, the Young Artist Summer Program, sprang to a fantastic start yesterday, as participants moved in throughout the day. Ranging from the ages of 14-22, YASP participants come from all corners of the world, including Macedonia, Germany, Chile, and of course all throughout the United States.

The students were met with an all-program orientation in the evening, where faculty and staff introduced themselves to the students, talking through their musical backgrounds and interests as well as expressing their enthusiasm for the program. Participants then broke off into groups to take music theory placement tests which will help determine which Musical Studies class they will sit in over the next few weeks.

They then returned to Gould Rehearsal Hall for rounds of spirited introductions and ice-breakers before finally heading off to bed after an exhausting, jam-packed first day. After months and months of planning, we are so excited to finally have everyone here, and can’t wait to see what the next three weeks will bring!
