Alumna Solomiya Ivakhiv (Violin ’03) Wins Outstanding Faculty Award
The Ukrainian violinist was honored by the UConn School of Fine Arts for her exceptional teaching and artistry
Ukrainian concert violinist and alumna Solomiya Ivakhiv, who serves on University of Connecticut’s faculty as professor of violin and viola, recently received the school’s Outstanding Faculty Award.
The annual award recognizes the recipient’s innovative and exceptional pedagogy—as well as their record of dedicated service and outstanding mentorship to students.
As a performer, educator, and humanitarian, several of her highlighted achievements include:
- Organizing and performing benefit concerts in Ukraine and the U.S. supporting Ukrainian musicians
- Receiving the designation Honored (Merited) Artist of Ukraine, the country’s highest cultural award.
- Earning a silver medal at the 2016 Global Music Awards for her solo album Ukraine: Journey to Freedom—A Century of Classical Music for Violin and Piano
- Releasing recordings with Naxos, Brilliant Classics, and Labor Records
