HyunJae Lim and Yesong Sophie Lee (Violin ’24) Win Top Prizes at 20th Seoul International Music Competition

Lim won first prize and Lee received third prize at the prestigious international competition.

We’re thrilled to congratulate current violin student HyunJae Lim* and recent alumna Yesong Sophie Lee (Violin ’24) for winning top prizes at the 20th Seoul International Music Competition.

Lim won the competition, receiving the first prize of $50,000; Lee won the third prize of $20,000. Both artists performed Sibelius’ monumental violin concerto.

Established in 1996, the Seoul International Music Competition aims to promote international cultural exchange through music—and to support talented young musicians from around the world. The competition is held annually for piano, violin, and voice in a rotating sequence.

*Lim received her bachelor’s degree in music at Curtis in 2020 and returned in fall of 2025 for her master’s degree.
