From Hofmann to Present: The Legacy of Piano at Curtis
Celebrate Piano during Founder's Weekend
Please note the timing of this program has changed. The program will start at 11:00 a.m. followed by tea at 12:00 p.m.
Join the piano department for a celebration of Curtis’ third president, composer, inventor, pedagogue, writer, and arguably “the greatest pianist of the 20th century” (Harold C. Schonberg, The Great Pianists from Mozart to the Present), Josef Hofmann. Celebrating the stature of this generative artist, the program will include featured replays of his historic 1938 recital in Casimir Hall (now Field Concert Hall).
The program will also include remarks, readings and performances by current piano faculty and students. The musical program is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m., and alumni and audience members are invited to join the Curtis community at 12:00 p.m. for a special Curtis Tea in the Common Room at 1726 Locust Street. Enjoy refreshments, including tea served from Curtis’ legendary samovar.
