We’re thrilled to congratulate recent alumni Eric Lu (’20), Zitong Wang (’22), and William Yang (’23) for winning top prizes at the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition.
Lu won the competition, receiving the first prize of €60,000 and a gold medal. Wang won the third prize of €35,000 and a bronze medal—as well as the best performance of a sonata award of €10,000. Yang won the sixth prize of €20,000.
One of the most renowned piano competitions in the world, the Chopin Piano Competition is held just once every five years in Warsaw, Poland, and is devoted entirely to the works of Fryderyk Chopin. For the 2025 competition, each finalist performed one of Chopin’s two piano concertos and Polonaise-Fantasy, Op. 61 accompanied by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra.
Established in 1927, the Chopin Piano Competition is renowned for launching the careers of some of the greatest pianists of the 20th and 21st centuries. We’re delighted to celebrate our alumni as part of this legacy.
Want to experience these world-class performances first-hand? On October 22 at 8 p.m. (2 p.m. EST), tune into the Chopin Institute’s YouTube channel for the winners’ first of three concerts, included as part of the competition award ceremony.
