Christo Wood recalls the advice from a fiddle teacher in Asheville, N.C., where he lived and played in a folk music group after college. “My violin was in a state of disrepair, and I didn’t know any better,” he recalls. “In the first lesson she said, ‘If you don’t take care of your instrument, your instrument won’t take care of you.’”

Fast forward to today, and Mr. Wood is paying this good advice forward to students at Curtis, helping guide them toward sustainable instrument care practices.
