After years of study, members of the class of 2022 share their talents and passion through a final graduation recital. Admission requires advance reservation and is complimentary.

Join us for a flute recital celebrating two graduates: Naomi Ford and Calvin Mayman. Their program includes staples of the flute repertoire, like J.S. Bach’s lively Sonata in E major to more contemporary works such as Aaron Copeland’s Duo written for flute and piano. Andrew Stump, violin also joins the recital on violin with Naomi Ford to perform Mel Bonis’s suite en trio. Calvin Mayman concludes the recital with the thrilling Tarantelle and Franck Sonata in A major.

Performers

Naomi Ford, from New Brunswick, Canada, entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2018 and studies flute with Jeffrey Khaner. All students at Curtis receive merit-based, full-tuition scholarships, and Ms. Ford is the Julius Baker Fellow.

Ms. Ford was born in England and has lived in New Brunswick since 2008. In 2017 she was the Grand Award winner at the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals and won Debut Atlantic’s Award for Music Excellence. In 2018 she was named among “30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30” by CBC Music. Ms. Ford holds multiple awards and scholarships from the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and Jeunesses Musicales Canada.

Ms. Ford has appeared as a soloist with Symphony New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra. She has participated in numerous music festivals across Canada including Barachois Summer Music Festival and Domaine Forget de Charlevoix.

Ms. Ford has participated in master classes with Robert Aitken, Jasmine Choi, Mathieu Dufour, and Sonora Slocum. She began playing the piano at age four and the flute at age seven, and previously studied with Karin Aurell. In her spare time, she enjoys archery and crocheting.

Calvin Mayman, from Ann Arbor, Mich., entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2018 and studies flute with Jeffrey Khaner. All students at Curtis receive merit-based, full-tuition scholarships, and Mr. Mayman is a Curtis Institute of Music Fellow.
In 2019 Mr. Mayman appeared as a soloist alongside Nadine Asin and Paul Huang in Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 at the Aspen Music Festival and School. He has also been a soloist with the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra, Grand Rapids Youth Symphony, and Huron Symphony Orchestra.

He won first prize in the 2021 Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia Young Artist Competition, the 2017 Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra’s Concerto Competition, and the 2017 Michigan Youth Arts Festival’s Outstanding Soloist Concerto Competition.

Mr. Mayman served as principal flute of the Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Huron High School Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Band for several years. He has attended the Aspen Music Festival and School, Interlochen Arts Camp Flute Institute, Marrowstone Music Festival, MPulse Flute Institute, and Orford Music Academy.

Mr. Mayman began playing the flute at age eight and previously studied with Jaimie Wagner and Jeffery Zook.

Sara Han, from Seoul, is a student of Anthony McGill and entered Curtis in 2017.

Aaron Patterson, from Philadelphia, is a student of Alan Morrison and entered Curtis in 2018.

Andrew Stump, from Dale City, Va., is a student of Jeffrey Lang and Jennifer Montone, and entered Curtis in 2018.
