About the Performers
Cherry Choi Tung Yeung, from Hong Kong, entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2019 and studies violin with Ida Kavafian and Arnold Steinhardt. All students at Curtis receive merit-based, full-tuition scholarships, and Ms. Yeung is the Jack Wolgin Fellow.
Ms. Yeung won first prize at the Hudson Valley Philharmonic String Competition in 2018, prompting engagements with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and Orchestra Sinfonica Rossini di Pesaro in Italy. Her other competition awards include second prize in the Juilliard Brahms Violin Concerto Competition in 2017, winner of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Concerto Competition in 2014 and 2015, second prize of the Schoenfeld International String Competition in 2013, and first prize at the Hong Kong Youth String Competition in 2009. In 2018 she was named a New York Philharmonic Global Academy Zarin Mehta Fellow.
Ms. Yeung has performed with the New York Philharmonic; the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, New World, and Princeton symphony orchestras; Symphony in C; New Jersey Festival Orchestra; and the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and the Juilliard School Orchestra as concertmaster. She has attended the Taipei Music Academic Festival, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Meadowmount School of Music, and New York String Orchestra Seminar, among other festivals and programs.
Ms. Yeung holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School, where she finished both degrees within four years. She previously attended the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Her former teachers include Ivan Chan and Michael Ma, and she also studies viola with Steven Tenenbom.
In her spare time, Ms. Yeung enjoys reading, swimming, cooking, listening to jazz, and watching movies.
Jiayin He, from Shanghai, is a student of Gary Hoffman and Peter Wiley, and entered Curtis in 2018.
Tianyou Ma, from Shenzhen, China, is a student of Shmuel Ashkenasi and Pamela Frank, and entered Curtis in 2019.
Haneul Park, from Seoul, is a student of Hsin-Yun Huang and entered Curtis in 2021.
Michael Shaham, from Ra’anana, Israel, is a student of Shmuel Ashkenasi and Ida Kavafian, and entered Curtis in 2019.
Zhu Wang, from Hunan Province, China, is a student of Robert McDonald and entered Curtis in 2020.
