Curtis on Tour in Washington, D.C.—ONLINE MARCH 13

  • Mar 22, 2020 @ 3:30 P.M.

Presented by the National Gallery of Art

Due to declarations of a state of emergency as coronavirus cases increase, Curtis on Tour has cancelled its scheduled in-person performance in Washington, D.C. This difficult decision is made out of concern for the health and well-being of the artists. In lieu of the in-person concerts, Curtis, in collaboration with the Chamber Music Society of Detroit, is pleased to offer a live-streamed performance of the full tour program on Friday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. ET. A preconcert talk will begin at 7 p.m. ET. Visit Curtis.edu/YouTube to view.

Curtis on Tour features the Vera Quartet performing alongside faculty pianist Meng-Chieh Liu in Franck’s luxuriant masterwork. The Vera opens the program with an early Beethoven quartet and a new work by Curtis alumnus David Hertzberg, commissioned expressly for this tour.

Having received top prizes at multiple competitions, the Vera began a residency at Curtis in 2018. Liu launched his celebrated career in 1993 when, as a 21-year-old Curtis student, he substituted for André Watts on three hours’ notice.
