Annual fees

The Comprehensive Fee

The comprehensive fee of $1,300 is payable by new students upon admission and by returning students at registration. A late fee of $100 will be charged if not paid by registration. This fee covers the cost of Curtis text books and provided course related materials.

Note: This does not include expenses for text books for students studying at the University of Pennsylvania. Curtis does not cover transportation costs incurred with these UPenn courses.

The Health Services Fee

The health services fee of $1,050, payable prior to or at registration, provides Curtis students with access to the University of Pennsylvania Student Health Service (SHS) for primary physical health care. Students do not need to have Curtis insurance to take advantage of these services.

This fee also includes initial emotional and psychological counseling provided by our private psychologists. Students are allowed five free visits with a member of our mental health team. Additional visits can be discussed with the associate dean of student services.

Health Care Insurance

Curtis requires all students to have adequate health care insurance for twelve months and offers a comprehensive student health insurance policy designed especially for our students. For 2014-15, all students are charged $3,000 for this plan.

Students may request exemption from Curtis's plan if they have a parental or private health insurance plan that provides adequate protection while they are attending Curtis. To seek an exemption, students must present prior to registration: (a) proof of coverage for the twelve months beginning September 1 and (b) a copy of their plan’s Summary Plan Description (SPD) or Schedule of Benefits that details the actual coverage. The student and parent will be required to sign a release form acknowledging their sole responsibility for any uninsured medical expenses. If, after review, the private plan is found to be inadequate, the student will be advised to enroll in the Curtis plan. If the student still chooses to be exempt from the Curtis plan, the student and parents will be required to sign the release form.

The Internet/E-Mail Fee

The Internet/e-mail fee of $125 is payable by new students upon admission and by returning students at registration.

PRORATION of fees for early withdrawal

Comprehensive fee: 50% of fee charged at first day of each term, no refund once term begins

Health Services and Internet fee: no refund after the 60% mark of the academic year

Health care insurance: refund determined by third-party provider

Lenfest Hall residential and dining fees: no refund after the 80% mark of the term when withdrawal occurs

NOTE: All calculations are based on weeks (not days) of enrollment, where one day of enrollment counts as a week earned.

One-time fees and deposits

Library deposit: $100

Instrument deposit (other than piano): $100

Graduation fee: $125

Payable at the beginning of the spring term for students expecting to graduate at the end of that term; the fee covers the costs of cap and gown rental and related expenses.

Piano moving and tuning

Students majoring in piano, organ, harpsichord, composition, or conducting who are lent a Curtis piano must pay a $200 security deposit, the cost of moving the piano from school to their apartment, and the cost of returning the piano to Curtis. The moving expense varies depending on the distance between the apartment and Curtis, plus the degree of difficulty of moving the piano into the apartment. Moving costs approximately $150 to $500 each way.

Curtis will pay for the first piano tuning, but students must cover costs of any additional tuning and repairs.
