Jennifer Arnold, viola

Violist Jennifer Arnold is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and a member of the Oregon Symphony, the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, and the Gateways Festival. An advocate for diversity in classical music, she was the first Sphinx Diversity Fellow in the 2016–17 season, focusing on a career in arts administration.

A 2005 graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Ms. Arnold has served as state chapter president of the American String Teachers Association of Oregon, and is a faculty member for the Sphinx Performance Academy and Portland Summer Ensembles.

In 1999, she made her solo debut, premiering Adolphus Hailstork’s Two Romances for Viola and Orchestra with the Cleveland Orchestra. In addition to winning prizes at the Sphinx Competition, she has performed as a member of the Youth Orchestra of the Americas, the New York String Seminar, the Sphinx Chamber Orchestra, and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, among others.

Ms. Arnold is active with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Oregon, the African American Health Coalition, and the Urban League of Portland Young Professionals.
