Catalyst Quartet

The Catalyst Quartet combines a serious commitment to diversity and education with a passion for contemporary works. Founded by the Sphinx Organization, the quartet is comprised of top laureates and alumni of the Sphinx Competition. The ensemble has toured throughout the United States, Europe, and Latin America, including sold-out performances at the Kennedy Center, Harris Theater in Chicago, the New World Center, and Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. Additional notable performances include concerts for Jazz at Lincoln Center with Grammy winner and jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant; and appearances as soloists with the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sphinx Virtuosi, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, among others.

The Catalyst Quartet’s festival appearances include Juneau Jazz and Classics; Festival del Sole in Napa Valley; Mainly Mozart; the Vail Dance Festival; and the Great Lakes Chamber, Sitka Summer, Strings, and Grand Canyon music festivals.

The Catalyst Quartet has held concert residencies at the universities of Michigan and Washington; Rice and Pennsylvania State universities; Houston’s Society for the Performing Arts, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, the Virginia Arts Festival, and Aldeburgh Music. Members of the quartet serve as principal faculty at the Sphinx Performance Academy at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Curtis Institute of Music, and Roosevelt University.
