Curtis Summerfest Faculty Recitals Return to Field Concert Hall Beginning May 18

Performers include Mimi Stillman, Melissa White, Soo Bae, Hanchien Lee, and Amy J. Yang

PHILADELPHIA—May 9, 2019—The 2019 Curtis Summerfest Faculty Recitals begin with a program of works by Dvorák, Gershwin, Mumford, and Villa-Lobos, as well as an original piece by flutist Mimi Stillman, performed by faculty from the Chamber Music for Adults program on Saturday, May 18 at 8 p.m. in Field Concert Hall.

The performers—Mimi Stillman (Flute ’99), artistic director of the Dolce Suono Ensemble; Melissa White (Violin ’07), founding member of the Harlem Quartet; Soo Bae (Cello ’01), director and founder of Angelos Mission Ensemble; Hanchien Lee (Piano ’03), faculty member at Peabody Preparatory; and Amy J. Yang (Piano ’06), program director of Summerfest’s Young Artist Summer Program—are all prolific soloists and chamber musicians, in addition to veteran faculty members of Curtis’s summer programs.

Additional Curtis Summerfest Faculty Recitals take place on June 14, July 19, July 26, and August 1 with performers including Toby Appel (Viola ’70), Patrick Kreeger (Organ ’13), and Katherine Needleman (Oboe ’99), as well as popular touring artists Imani Winds and Ray Chen (Violin ’10), who are new to the Summerfest faculty roster this year. “A wonderful jolt of established Curtis insiders with outside talent” (Philadelphia Inquirer), these popular summer concerts feature distinguished chamber musicians from the Curtis Summerfest faculty. These remarkable artists, many of them Curtis alumni, perform a variety of repertoire—from beloved classics to the music of today—in the timeless setting of Field Concert Hall.

All recitals take place in Field Concert Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music, 1726 Locust Street, Philadelphia. Subscriptions for $80 or single tickets for $20 are available from the Curtis Patron Services Office at (215) 893-7902 or Curtis.edu/SummerRecitals.
