“The model of a modern musician” (Los Angeles Times) and winner of the 2016 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award, Curtis alumna Karina Canellakis leads the orchestra on a rhapsodic journey. George Walker’s pensive lament for string orchestra sets the tone for Strauss’s poignant valedictory song cycle, featuring the “glowing” voice (Opera News) of Metropolitan Opera soprano Amanda Majeski, also a Curtis alumna. Webern’s Six Pieces for Orchestra offers an otherworldly counterpoint to Scriabin’s rarely heard Poem of Ecstasy, which provides the exhilarating close.
Orchestral concerts are supported by the Jack Wolgin Curtis Orchestral Concerts Endowment Fund.
