Joseph Conyers In Conversation with WRTI

Accomplished performer and educator discusses how he leads young musicians through times of crisis

Joseph Conyers (Double Bass ’04) is the acting associate principal bass of the Philadelphia Orchestra, founder and executive director of Project 440, and music director of the All-City Orchestra in Philadelphia. He spoke with WRTI-FM’s Susan Lewis about guiding young musicians in times of crisis and using music to drive community.

“It's supposed to make us uncomfortable,” says Mr. Conyers of art, particularly music. “Even in a movement like Black Lives Matter, this is actually a time when we can lean in, and use music as a tool to start these really important conversations.”
