Maya Miro Johnson Receives Three Honors From BMI

Ms. Johnson studies composition with Richard Danielpour, Jennifer Higdon, and David Serkin Ludwig

Composition student Maya Miro Johnson has received a 2020 BMI Student Composer Award from the BMI Foundation. Ms. Johnson is one of eight young composers to receive the honor, which “recognize[s] superior musical compositional ability.” She also earned special recognition, winning both the William Schuman Prize for most outstanding score, as well as the Carlos Surinach Prize, which is awarded to the youngest winner of the competition.
