The Curtis Institute of Music and Jonathan Biss (Piano ’01) launch Part 6, the final installment of the popular online course Exploring Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas, available January 10 on Coursera. Free and available on demand, the new lectures complete the series, which offers an in-depth look into the Beethoven piano sonatas from a performer’s point of view. Jonathan Biss holds the Neubauer Family Chair in Piano Studies at Curtis.

“Preparing and delivering these lectures over the past seven years has been a life-changing experience. It has deepened my relationship with Beethoven, and forced me to define—and continually redefine—my priorities in the music that means most to me,” says Mr. Biss. “The greatest discovery: that after all these years and all this study, these sonatas are more wondrous and more mysterious to me than ever.”

Curtis was the first conservatory to offer a massive open online course (MOOC) on Coursera.
