Graduation Recital: Youjin Lee, violin
Youjin Lee opens her graduation recital with the joyful Sonata in B-flat major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the jaw-dropping Caprice No. 24 by Niccolò Paganini. The performance continues with Paul Hindemith’s restless Sonata in E-flat major. Hindemith began composing this work while serving in the German army on the Western Front. He wrote in his wartime diary that “Music reached out beyond political boundaries, national hatred and the horrors of war.” Youjin concludes her thrilling performance with the “Ballade” by Eugène Ysaÿe, “King of the Violin,” and a sparkling polonaise by Polish virtuoso Henryk Wieniawski.
