Composition Department Coordinator
The work of composer and pianist Michael Djupstrom has been recognized through honors and awards from institutions such as the American Academy of Arts and Letters, The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, New Music USA, S and R Foundation, the Delius Society (U.K.), the Académie musicale de Villecroze, and the Chinese Fine Arts Society. He has received commissions from the Philadelphia Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Tanglewood Music Center, International Opera Theater, New York Youth Symphony, Music From Angel Fire, Lotte Lehmann Foundation, and Network for New Music, among others.
As a pianist Mr. Djupstrom has taken a special interest in performing chamber music, leading to appearances worldwide. He has appeared on American Public Media’s Performance Today and Hong Kong’s Radio 4, and recorded for the Equilibrium, American Modern, and Meyer Media labels.
Mr. Djupstrom began music studies at the age of eight and holds bachelor’s and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan and an artist diploma in composition from the Curtis Institute of Music. He has held fellowships at the Tanglewood Music Center, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Brevard Music Center; and studied privately in Paris with composer Betsy Jolas. He joined the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 2012.
