Kevin ShortBass-baritone Kevin Short has appeared with leading opera companies in North America, including the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Opera Pacific, Florida Grand Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Opera Theater of Saint Louis; and the opera companies of Los Angeles, Washington, Seattle, Sarasota, Vancouver, Edmonton, Pittsburgh, and Santa Fe. He has also appeared across Europe and Asia with such companies as Opéra Comique in Paris, Welsh National Opera, Oper Köln, Semperoper Dresden; and in venues including Théâtre de Caen, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, and Teatro di San Carlo.

Mr. Short enjoys an active concert and recital schedule and has performed with the Boston, Baltimore, St. Louis, National, St. Petersburg, Prague Radio, and RAI National symphony orchestras; the Philadelphia and Cleveland orchestras; the Czech, Moscow, and Royal Stockholm philharmonic orchestras; the San Francisco Symphony; and the Handel and Haydn Society.

A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Mr. Short also studied at Morgan State University and the Juilliard School. A past winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the Rosa Ponselle and Liederkranz Foundation vocal competitions, he has also has received awards from the Sullivan Foundation, Opera Index, the Shoshana Foundation, and the George London Foundation. His solo recording from Pentatone, Mephistopheles and Other Bad Guys, was listed by WQXR as one of the outstanding classical recordings of 2018. Other recordings include Otello, L’Enfant et les sortilèges, Amahl and the Night Visitors, The Death of Webern, and Don Carlo.

Mr. Short joined the adjunct faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 2019.
