Curtis Opera Theatre

From the Metropolitan Opera to La Scala, Covent Garden to the Vienna Staatsoper, Curtis alumni appear around the world. Hear the future stars of opera here first, in a season that combines wellloved repertoire with cutting-edge works in intimate venues. Artistic Director Mikael Eliasen attracts award-winning professional directors and designers to create polished, visually stunning Curtis Opera Theatre productions that showcase today’s finest young voices.

Money buys happiness but not true love for Magda, the heroine of Puccini’s comic opera. Abandoning her lavish life with a rich banker for the affection of a poor young student, she realizes, heartbroken, that she is unworthy of his marriage proposal. Evocative waltzes and glowing melodies enliven Puccini’s elegant score. 

Fully staged production with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, sung in Italian with English supertitles
