First associate concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Juliette Kang ('91) enjoys a varied and active career. She has appeared as a soloist with the San Francisco and Baltimore symphonies and l'Orchestre National de France, and was gold medalist of the 1994 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. Ms. Kang is joined by Christoph Eschenbach and Thomas Kraines ('92) in works by Mozart, Schubert, and others.

Time for Three transcends traditional classification, with elements of classical, country western, gypsy, and jazz idioms forming a blend all its own. Zachary DePue ('02), Nicolas Kendall ('01), and Ranaan Meyer ('03) played together for fun while students at Curtis, shaping their mutual passion for improvisation, composing, and arranging. The ultimate result: a charismatic ensemble with a reputation for limitless enthusiasm and no musical boundaries.

Michael Schade

Michael Schade, tenor ('90)

Michael Schade ('90) performs frequently in the world's great opera houses. In recent seasons he has been featured in leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna Staatsoper, and the Salzburg Festival. As a recitalist Mr. Schade has appeared at La Scala, in Vienna's Musikverein, in Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, and in New York's Carnegie Hall. He has appeared in concert with the Berlin, Vienna, New York, and Los Angeles philharmonics; the Philadelphia and Cleveland orchestras; and the San Francisco, Montreal, and Toronto symphony orchestras. Mr. Schade collaborates with Mikael Eliasen, artistic director of the Curtis Opera Theatre, in an all-Schubert recital. Mr. Schade appears by permission of the Metropolitan Opera.

ABOUT THE ALUMNI RECITAL SERIES
Distinguished alumni return to Curtis for benefit performances on the Alumni Recital Series. The series is copresented by Curtis and the Alumni Society of Greater Philadelphia, and the proceeds support the next generation of Curtis musicians.

Curtis Musicians Perform at the Mann Center

Curtis students and recent graduates make their Philadelphia Orchestra debuts at the Mann Center June 29, June 30, and July 1 under the direction of Rossen Milanov, artistic director of the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Mann Center and a 1994 graduate of Curtis.

On Monday, June 29 at 8 p.m., works by Beethoven are featured. Benjamin Beilman performs Romance No. 2 for violin and orchestra, and 2009 graduate Kyu Yeon Kim performs Piano Concerto No. 4.

Twins Christina and Michelle Naughton, second-year Curtis students, perform on Tuesday, June 30 at 8 p.m. The concert includes an appearance by Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter, narrating Saint-Saëns’s Carnival of the Animals.

On Wednesday, July 1 at 8 p.m., fourteen-year-old Curtis violinist Yu-Chien Tseng performs Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with conductor and harpsichordist Lio Kuokman, a 2009 graduate. Lio also leads the Philadelphia Orchestra in a performance of Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro.
