On Stage at Curtis
on
WHYY’S Y Arts Channel
Fall 2007--Winter 2008

Beginning September 3, WHYY's Y Arts digital cable channel presents a second season of programs drawn from the Curtis Student Recital Series. On Stage at Curtis consists of 25 concert-length programs recorded by three robotic cameras installed in Field Concert Hall. A gift from the Joseph and Marie Field Foundation funded the acquisition and installation of the cameras and related video equipment.

On Stage at Curtis airs on the Y Arts digital channel (Comcast Channel 241) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 7 p.m. and is available to anyone with a digital TV and external antenna.

Violist Brenton Caldwell, from Tyler, Tex., studied with Roberto Díaz, president of Curtis and former principal viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and Misha Amory. Mr. Caldwell graduated in 2007 and became a fellow of The Academy, a partnership among Juilliard, Carnegie Hall, the Weill Music Institute, and the New York City Department of Education. His graduation recital is accompanied by staff pianist Elena Jivaeva and features Curtis alumna Alexandra Osborne, violin.

Ms. Han graduated from Curtis in 2007 with a Bachelor of Music degree and is continuing her studies at the Juilliard School in New York City.

Yuja Wang from Beijing is a student of Gary Graffman and entered Curtis in 2002. In 2006, Ms. Wang was a recipient of the prestigious Gilmore Young Artist Award. During the 2006-07 season, she had debuts at the New York Philharmonic, the Boston, Chicago, Houston, and San Francisco symphonies, and the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Japan.

A 100th Birthday Tribute to Elliott Carter

20/21: The Curtis Contemporary Music Ensemble performs a concert of works by Elliott Carter on Thursday, May 8 at 8 p.m. in honor of the famed composer's 100th birthday. The free recital takes place in Field Concert Hall at The Curtis Institute of Music, and no tickets are required. The program also includes two pieces by student composers Christopher Rogerson and Ke-Chia Chen. View the entire program.

Dedicated to the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, 20/21 performs works ranging from important twentieth-century compositions to newly written pieces not yet part of the core repertoire.
