Faculty

From the beginning Mrs. Bok emphasized that the school would be best served by maintaining a small student body and a strong student-teacher relationship. To attract the most promising students, s
he assembled a faculty that included Leopold Auer, Josef Hofmann, Anton Horner, William Kincaid, Wanda Landowska, Carlos Salzedo, Marcella Sembrich, Leopold Stokowski, Marcel Tabuteau, Isabelle Vengerova, and Efrem Zimbalist.

Today Curtis's faculty, which numbers about ninety, includes celebrated teachers and performing musicians such as Richard Danielpour, Roberto Díaz, Mikael Eliasen, Leon Fleisher, Pamela Frank, Gary Graffman, Jennifer Higdon, Ida Kavafian, Seymour Lipkin, Marlena Kleinman Malas, Edgar Meyer, Otto-Werner Mueller, Joan Patenaude-Yarnell, Aaron Rosand, Joseph Silverstein, members of the Guarneri Quartet, and many of the principal players of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Through their high level of artistry, the faculty connect students to the experience of being a distinguished professional musician today.

In addition to one-on-one instruction with the faculty, Curtis frequently brings in world-renowned artists to work with its students. The visits range from master classes, orchestra rehearsals, coachings, residencies, and lectures, as well as performances with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and Curtis Opera Theatre.
