Former faculty member Mstislav Rostropovich is given the first-ever Curtis Award in recognition of both his artistic and humanitarian achievements. Faculty member cellist Orlando Cole and industrialist Frank Gorell are presented with the Alumni Award in May 2000, one of the highest honors the Institute can bestow on its alumni.
