Rudolf Serkin reinvigorates opera department with the appointment of Max Rudolf, formerly artistic administrator of the Metropolitan Opera under Rudolf Bing. Mr. Serkin also revives the conducting department, which had been suspended when Fritz Reiner left in 1941.
