Mr. Serkin strengthens the Institute's relationship with the Philadelphia Orchestra through the involvement of Eugene Ormandy, who begins to conduct the school's orchestra and supervise its training program. Ormandy encourages guest conductors of the Philadelphia Orchestra to work with the Curtis ensemble, including Claudio Abbado and Zubin Mehta.
