Legacy

A life-long Philadelphian who loves attending student recitals at Curtis, Tobe also enjoys the results of her philanthropy first-hand. By endowing the Tobe Amsterdam Fellowship with a planned gift, she helps ensure that Curtis students receive the education and training that put them at the forefront worldwide.

Philadelphia Orchestra bass trombonist, Curtis alumnus, and faculty member since 1997, Blair is passing on his musical legacy to the next generation of young musicians not only through his teaching but also by utilizing his exceptional talent in coordinating our brass ensembles. With Blair’s planned gift to Curtis of his rare trombone collection, future students will have the opportunity to learn on some of the finest instruments in the world.

Harris, a physician, plays the clarinet, Louise is a gifted painter, and their loyal financial support of Curtis spans decades. Together they have made a bequest that honors Harris’s cherished memory of attending to the medical needs of our students while on tour with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra in Europe.

As a Curtis graduate who went on to sing mezzo-soprano roles at the New York City Opera, Edith is delighted to share the gift of a Curtis education. In addition to being a Friends board member and active volunteer, she and her husband Abe established a fellowship that, to date, has supported four students whose voices now enrich the world of music. (Pctured with opera student and fellowship recipient Rachel Sterrenberg)

Dedicated Annual Fund supporters, Jim and Betty have established a charitable remainder trust to endow a faculty chair at Curtis. But their involvement doesn’t stop there. Betty serves on the Board of Trustees and they have hosted students from around the world, welcoming them into the Curtis family.

As an alumnus, Alan wanted to ensure that future students continue to have the same opportunities that have led him to a career as a Curtis faculty member, world-renowned concert organist, and recording artist. That is why he has included Curtis in his estate plan.
