Curtis seeks to create a pioneering Conducting Studies Program that will tap the talents of the world’s finest conductors and performing artists to train the students of Curtis's Helen F. Whitaker Conducting Program.
The Conducting Program now resides in Gould Rehearsal Hall at Lenfest Hall, opened in September 2011.
The Curtis Conducting Program will add mentoring to the musical training of conducting students through relationships with internationally esteemed conductors and their orchestras. Curtis’s conducting students will also obtain valuable orchestral experience in the field, and opera conducting will form an important component of the program.
Through these relationships, other Curtis students (including singers, composers, soloists, principal players, and section members) will also experience coaching from eminent conductors, as well as have opportunities for joint performances in major venues, tours as appropriate, and live recordings. Curtis performance schedules will be designed to facilitate engagement of these highly sought-after conducting artists.
