Eva-Maria Swidler holds undergraduate degrees and certificates in sociology, nursing, and midwifery from Temple University, Philadelphia's community college, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She worked for 15 years in out-of-hospital birth centers, an overseas aid agency, and women's health care centers before returning to academia. She received a Ph.D. in history from Temple University with an emphasis on historical theory and agricultural and environmental issues.
Her writing has appeared in varied venues, including the popular press, a Soil Science Journal, and academic social science publications. She has taught at several universities and is currently a faculty advisor in Goddard College's interdisciplinary bachelor's program. She joined the Curtis faculty in 2013.
