Alumni Network Executive Committee

Stanford Thompson (Trumpet '09): Alumni Network Chair

"I serve as the executive director of Play On, Philly! and the chairman of El Sistema USA. I help over 300 at-risk youth in Philadelphia receive a high quality musical experience each weekday after school and support over 40,000 youth nationwide who are engaged in similar programs. I receive my inspiration and energy by staying connected to the Curtis community that continues to give to the alumni and current students."

Billy Short (Bassoon ’10): Curtis Storytellers Project Leader

"I’m very excited to join the Alumni Network executive committee as the Storytellers project leader! Alumni are a vital component of Curtis’ ongoing story, and I welcome the opportunity to work with graduates from all walks of life to showcase the diversity and accomplishment of the greater Curtis family."

Mimi Stillman (Flute ’99): Mentorship Project Leader

"I am honored and excited to serve on the Curtis Alumni Network executive committee. The musical friendships I built during my time at Curtis and with Curtis alumni from different periods have led to some of the most rewarding relationships in my performing career. Wherever I go to make music, there is a special bond among those of us who share the Curtis experience. I welcome this opportunity to give back to Curtis by helping the alumni council build ever closer ties among Curtis alumni. Together, we will support Curtis in its mission of training musicians at the highest level and engaging a local and global community through artistry."

Marsha Hunter (Opera ’77): Regional Ambassadors Project Leader, United States

Marsha Hunter (Opera '77) is working in a second career as a communication consultant to trial lawyers. She is a member of the board of overseers at Curtis and volunteers at Music from Angel Fire. She lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with her husband Brian K. Johnson. She is enthusiastic about the Alumni Network model and eager to have 100% alumni participation.

Catalina Vicens (Harpsichord ’06): Regional Ambassadors Project Leader, Europe

“I’m looking forward to help developing a professional network of Curtis Alumni in Europe, so that we can track our whereabouts, get together and share stories, as well as spreading the word about Curtis’ current vision to other colleagues and young talents.”

Janellen Farmer (Opera ’84): Opera Alumni Task Force Project Leader

Janellen is thrilled to continue her association with her beloved Curtis Institute of Music by becoming part of the Alumni Network executive committee. "My time at Curtis not only prepared me for my life as a singer and musician intellectually and artistically, but it has opened doors for me throughout my career. Curtis alumni remain active in the arts community where ever they live and have always been welcoming and generous in offering advice and introductions to new colleagues." Janellen is eager to help other singers become more active in the alumni associations many activities, and to reconnect old friends.

Karen Slack (Opera ’02): Opera Alumni Task Force Project Leader

"Beyond honored to serve as a Voice/Opera representative and member of the Curtis Alumni Network Executive Committee. Bridging the gap between vocal alumni and current vocal students is incredibly important for our future as artist/teachers and our beloved Institution. I am passionate about giving back to the place that has given so much to all of us."
