Curtis's conducting fellows program provides a unique opportunity for young conductors at a crucial time in their development. In keeping with Curtis’s characteristic “learn by doing” approach, conducting fellows gain valuable experience through opportunities to lead rehearsals and performances of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, Curtis Chamber Orchestra, Curtis 20/21 Ensemble, and Curtis Opera Theatre. The Rita E. Hauser Conducting Fellows are mentored by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra; assist visiting conductors at Curtis, and have access to Curtis’s performance and musical studies faculties. They also have the opportunity to work with leading conductors both at Curtis and through residencies with professional orchestras.
To be admitted, conducting fellows must be at a level where they are prepared to lead the above ensembles through the rehearsal process and in performance.
Curtis is deeply grateful to Rita E. and Gustave M. Hauser for their support of the conducting fellows program.
