Voice Faculty 2017
Julia Faulkner has firmly established herself as one of the top voice teachers in the world. Her students perform globally at the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, San Francisco Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago, among others. Ms. Faulkner is the director of vocal studies for the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center, Lyric Opera of Chicago’s renowned professional artist-development program, and she is a master teacher for the apprentices at the Santa Fe Opera. She was previously a professor of voice at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for ten years. Since 2015 she has been an adjunct voice faculty member of the Curtis Institute of Music.
Ms. Faulkner has had a distinguished international singing career with performances on many of the world’s great opera and concert stages. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in the title role of Strauss’s Arabella in 1994 and sang major roles at the Bavarian and Vienna State Operas. Other engagements have included performances with the opera companies of La Scala, Hamburg, and Amsterdam; the Berlin and Los Angeles philharmonics; and the Cleveland, Concertgebouw, Dresdener Staatskapelle, and Gewandhaus Leipzig orchestras. A celebrated recording artist, Ms. Faulkner has recordings on the Naxos, EMI and Deutsche Grammophon labels.
