A New Season of Free Student Recitals Begins Oct 14
Experience the music from anywhere in the world with live-streamed recitals on Curtis Performs (Curtis.edu/CurtisPerforms) every Friday night
PHILADELPHIA—October 12, 2016—A new season of the Curtis Institute of Music’s Student Recital Series begins on Friday, October 14 at 8 p.m. One of the most distinguished stages in Philadelphia, Field Concert Hall hosts exceptional free concerts by the world’s top young musicians. Students perform solo and chamber works at Curtis most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8 p.m., as well as many weekends. Renowned faculty and guest artists join Curtis students for special residency recitals on the series. Admission is free and no tickets or advance reservations are required.
Those who can’t make it to Philadelphia can still experience the incredible artistry and compelling performances on the Student Recital Series. Curtis Performs, the online stage of the Curtis Institute of Music, will stream recitals live from Curtis every Friday night at Curtis.edu/CurtisPerforms, beginning October 14. More than 16,000 viewers come to Curtis Performs each year, drawn by these live-streamed recitals and additional video content that is updated weekly.
The opening recital on October 14 highlights the Zorá String Quartet, in residence at Curtis through the Nina von Maltzahn String Quartet Program, performing Shostakovich’s Quartet No. 9 in E-flat major, Op. 117. The Zorá Quartet takes the Field Concert Hall stage again on October 28 for their first residency recital of the year, performing works by Mozart, Shostakovich, and Webern. Other highlights include a tribute recital on October 17 in honor of legendary violist Joseph de Pasquale (’42), longtime principal of the Philadelphia Orchestra and a member of the Curtis faculty for more than 50 years; and a residency recital on October 30 featuring works by 2016–17 composer in residence Kaija Saariaho, performed by Jennifer Koh (Violin ’02) and the Curtis 20/21 Ensemble.
