Curtis Mourns the Loss of Trustee Shaun F. O’Malley
(March 29, 2015) The Curtis Institute of Music mourns the loss of Shaun F. O'Malley, a member of the Board of Trustees for over three decades, who passionately championed and advanced the mission and vision of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and beyond.
Respected as a gentleman devoted to his loving family, Chairman Emeritus of PriceWaterhouseCooper, and an internationally respected accounting expert, he graciously volunteered his time and expertise as a civic leader devoted to many organizations in Philadelphia.
A member of the Curtis Board of Trustees for 34 years, he also served as chair of that board from 1988 to 1989 and again from 2000 to 2003. Vice president of the Bok Foundation Board of Directors since 2012, and a member since 2006, he served as president of the Bok Board from 2009 to 2012.
Throughout this time he was devoted to preserving the ideals and safeguarding the endowment established by the visionary founder of the Curtis Institute of Music. He demonstrated profound investment in keeping Curtis tuition-free for generations of students to come through leadership as Chair of the Sound for the Century Campaign, joining the Founder's Society, and endowing two student fellowships.
The Curtis Institute of Music expresses its deep sorrow to his family and the community at large, and remembers with affection and appreciation his remarkable life, legacy, and service.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. at Our Mother of Consolation Church in Chestnut Hill. In lieu of flowers, a contribution in Shaun's memory can be made to the Curtis Institute of Music or in support of Dr. Lynn Schuchter's research at the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of PA and mailed to Penn Medicine Development, Attn: Laura Ferraiolo, 3535 Market St., Suite 750, Phila.
