(January 19, 2012) Curtis On Tour kicks off the Spring 2012 tour on Wednesday, January 25 at 8 p.m. in Field Concert Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music. Each season Curtis On Tour brings the extraordinary artistry of the world-renowned Curtis Institute of Music to audiences nationwide, with tomorrow's leading musicians performing alongside celebrated Curtis alumni and faculty.

Celebrating the school's new classical guitar program, the tour features guitar faculty member Jason Vieaux and Curtis President and violist Roberto Díaz ('84) performing alongside Curtis students. The program includes a piece for strings and guitar commissioned from 2005 Curtis graduate Zhou Tian, Paganini's last guitar quartet, Kodály's Duo for Violin and Cello, and an arrangement of Piazzolla's Oblivion for guitar and strings.

Admission is free and no tickets are required. Field Concert Hall is located at 1726 Locust Street, Philadelphia.

The Spring 2012 tour begins with a January 22 member exclusive performance at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa. After the January 25 recital at Curtis, the group travels cross-country February 25 through March 13, stopping in Burlington, Vt.; Rockport, Maine; Aspen, Colo.; Sarasota and Lake Wales, Fla.; Davis, Calif.; and Seattle. Curtis On Tour is part of the 2011-12 Appassionato season, which heralds the school's enduring influence on music in Philadelphia and the world. The season features bold programming, enriched curriculum offerings, and an expanded schedule for Curtis On Tour. In addition to the spring performances across the United States, the 2011-12 season includes Curtis On Tour's first trip to Asia, with performances at the Beijing Music Festival and Seoul Arts Center in October 2011, and the Curtis Symphony Orchestra's first European tour in a decade in May, followed by the annual chamber music tour in Europe.

Curtis On Tour embodies the remarkable traditions of Curtis, where individually tailored training with a faculty of renowned musicians has nurtured a long line of great artists, from Leonard Bernstein and Samuel Barber to Hilary Hahn and Lang Lang. One of the world's leading music schools, Curtis provides full-tuition scholarships to all of its 164 students, ensuring that admissions are based solely on artistic promise. Students at this intimate, Philadelphia-based conservatory "learn by doing," performing frequently and often collaborating side-by-side with their teachers. Curtis On Tour embodies this irresistible meeting of youthful exuberance and seasoned artistry.
