Connect to the Music with Evening Courses at Curtis Beginning July 18

Curtis Connections Music Appreciation Program Begins July 18

[PDF format]

(June 21, 2012) Change your concert-going experience in just one week with evening classroom courses at the Curtis Institute of Music. The inaugural Curtis Connections adult education program takes place at Lenfest Hall July 18 through 24.

Four engaging evenings, including three classes at the Curtis Institute of Music, culminate in a stunning concert at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, featuring Glinka's Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla, Dvoƙák's Cello Concerto in B minor, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5.

Curtis Connections is taught by Jonathan Coopersmith, Chair of Musical Studies at Curtis. A popular teacher known for blending musical knowledge and a passion for history with an engaging wit, he'll give an overview of the political and social trends that influence the compositions, and reveal how the music works and why it has the effect that it does. No knowledge of music theory is required.

Experience Curtis Connections in the school's brand new, state-of-the-art Lenfest Hall, fully equipped with multimedia and wifi and close to numerous options for post-class dining. Classes take place July 18, 19, and 23 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., concluding on July 24 at the Mann Center for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concert. The application fee is $50 and tuition is $350, including concert tickets.

Class size is limited to ensure the most engaging experience, and space permitting, applications will be accepted through July 6. To register, visit http://summerprograms.curtis.edu/curtis-connections.
