(February 3, 2011) Curtis 20/21, the school's contemporary music ensemble, performs an all-Ravel recital at St. Mark's Church on Sunday, February 20 at 7 p.m. Curtis students perform Ravel chamber works including Chansons madécasses, Trois poèmes de Stéphane Mallarmé, and Sonatine, for piano. The recital is free and open to the public; no tickets required.

The recital is part of "The Paris Project", a school-wide study of the music written in Paris between the wars. Repertoire from the period--as well as the music that influenced and came out of it--is performed throughout the year. From Picasso to Stravinsky, Gertrude Stein, and Les Six, Curtis spends the academic year in the company of great Modernist masters who lived in and around Paris.

Curtis 20/21 travels to Washington, D.C. the following day to perform another all-Ravel program as part of the Kennedy Center's Conservatory Project, an ongoing showcase for the nation's exceptional young talent. The group takes the Millennium stage on Monday, February 21 at 6 p.m.; the performance is free and open to the public, no tickets required.
