Introduce Kids to Classical Music with PECO Family Concerts at Curtis November 8
Interactive Concerts Introduce Kids to Composition and Conducting
How do you write music? What does a conductor do? Kids learn this and more about the world of classical music with PECO Family Concerts at the Curtis Institute of Music on Sunday, November 8 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. During each one-hour program, Curtis students team up with kids in the audience to demonstrate how to compose music and conduct an ensemble. The concerts are best enjoyed by children ages five and older.
The PECO Family Concerts take place in Field Concert Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music, 1726 Locust Street, Philadelphia. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for children twelve and under. For tickets or more information, contact the Curtis Ticket Office at (215) 893-7902 or www.curtis.edu. The PECO Family Concert Series is sponsored by PECO, an Exelon Company.
The family concerts are part of the Curtis Community Engagement Program, which shares classical music with young people and others in the community who may not otherwise have access to it. Curtis students also provide interactive educational presentations for area schools, hospitals, senior centers, and community venues through the Community Engagement Program.
The Curtis Institute of Music educates and trains exceptionally gifted young musicians for careers as performing artists on the highest professional level. One of the world's leading conservatories, Curtis is highly selective and provides full-tuition scholarships to all of its 160 students. Curtis receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
